Nearly two years after the borough legalized the sale and manufacturing of marijuana within its boundaries, the Borough Council is proposing to change its rules regarding where cannabis businesses can be established and how many cannabis businesses it would allow.

The special meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at borough hall or on Zoom.

The current borough ordinance does not have a limit on the number of cannabis businesses, but restricts its operations based on a map with buffer zones drawn around schools, playgrounds and the borough’s public housing.

The Red Bank Borough Council will hold a special meeting Monday to review and discuss its ordinance that regulates certain requirements for cannabis businesses to operate in the borough.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. It is also a hybrid meeting so residents can follow it on Zoom.

The discussion may include, but is not limited to, a review of borough ordinance 2021-17, which amended the cannabis regulations for the borough, according to the notice.

Now that the sale of recreational cannabis is legal in New Jersey, Princeton residents have some simple questions to resolve: Should the town allow a dispensary – call it a pot shop – to open in town? If so how many should the town allow? And where should they be located?

The big fireworks over the possible opening of one or more cannabis dispensaries in Princeton have been expected to occur at the Princeton Council meeting Tuesday, March 29.

The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission, which was created to establish and enforce the rules and regulations governing the licensing, cultivation, testing, selling, and purchasing of cannabis in the state, has announced regional hearings. The topic will be using social equity revenue for community good.

The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJ-CRC) will be hosting three virtual meetings to listen to public suggestions for how funds raised from cannabis fees and fines should be used for social equity projects. Input collected at the meetings and in written submissions will inform the Commission's recommendations to the governor and legislature.

The meetings will be held on Wednesday, March 2, Wednesday, March 9, and Wednesday, March 16 and chaired by Commissioners Krista Nash and Charles Barker.

Welcome to another short week on the municipal calendar.

The highlight of the week may turn out to be the report to Princeton Council by the Cannabis Task force on Tuesday, November 30, rather than the usual Monday. The task force’s chair, Council Member Eve Niedergang, had raised doubts about whether the report would be ready for the November 30 meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

But a few “snags” encountered by the task force apparently have been resolved. The report has been including in the Council’s meeting packet, and the item is listed on the agenda.

The commission responsible for establishing and enforcing rules and regulations for the New Jersey cannabis industry will hold an informational webinar this week.

The New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJCRC) has announced the CRC Recreational Cannabis Statewide Informational Webinar on Tuesday, September 28, 2021.

According to NJCRC, the webinar will focus on the new adult-use cannabis regulations and how they apply to municipalities, community members, and potential industry entrants.

The first item on the agenda is a public hearing and final adoption of an ordinance to prohibit the sale, growth, and distribution of any class of cannabis businesses within the geographical boundaries of Berkeley Heights. Council is proposing this ordinance to allow time for the State to fully develop the regulatory framework and for the council and community to weigh the costs and benefits of any action regarding the sale, growth and distribution of cannabis. Once this is passed, the Township can decide later whether to opt in.

The public will have a chance to speak Tuesday night before the Hillsborough Mayor and Committee is expected to vote on an ordinance that essentially prohibits the sale of marijuana within the township.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Township Municipal Complex.

The ordinance prohibits cannabis establishments, delivery services and distributors from operating anywhere within the Township of Hillsborough, except for the delivery of cannabis and related supplies by a delivery service.
