After the meeting, on Thursday, Nov. 3, the Hunterdon Review received a notification of intent for legal action by the NAR Group and requesting "automatic approval" of the application for a medical cannabis facility.
With cannabis essentially “already here,” the Borough Council had a decision to make on whether or not they would participate in and benefit from the new legal marketplace in the state.
“Metuchen residents can visit any existing dispensaries or have [the cannabis] delivered to their homes,” Council President Jason Delia said noting there are 19 medicinal and recreational and nine medicinal only businesses in the state and the borough cannot prevent cannabis delivery companies to deliver to a Metuchen address.
On Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 7:00 pm at Somerdale Borough Hall, the Planning and Zoning Board will hear the application of Ivy Property Group LP, who will present an application requesting amended final site plan approval and preliminary and final site plan approval to permit the construction of a retail cannabis dispensary on property that has no current street address.
Cannabis was in the crosshairs at the Monday Middle Township Committee meeting, at which a resident lambasted plans for a dispensary in the Rio Grande section.
At a previous meeting, committee members supported the location on Route 9. The site is currently vacant, after the diner that once stood there burned down years ago.
The application individuals and entities will be required to complete if they want to operate a cannabis business in Tinton Falls has been approved by the members of the Borough Council.
During a meeting on Oct. 11, council members approved the borough’s cannabis license application and authorized the acceptance of applications in November.
Municipal officials set Nov. 1 through Nov. 30 as the initial control dates for applications to be submitted. Applications will be accepted for consideration during that period, according to a resolution.
The Lakehurst Borough Council unanimously approved the three businesses — a manufacturer license and two retail licenses — at its Sept. 15 council meeting.
It approved Life Extracts LLC for a Class 2 cannabis manufacturer license for an operation that will be in the light industrial zone. The retail licenses were approves for Stoke Industries LLC to be located at 112 Center St. and for C3 Lakehurst LLC at 145 Route 70, former Burger King property.
The Massachusetts company, INSA, has already sought a license for medical retail in the township. That effort failed to get state approval during the first rounds of licensing for medical cannabis dispensaries. There is still the potential for an integrated license for cultivation and manufacturing operations at the old La Monica Plant on Indian Trail Road.
The Township Committee on Wednesday night voted in favor of a resolution approving a license for the community's first recreational cannabis dispensary.
Story Dispensary of Springfield LLC was approved by the governing body to operate its business at a site on Route 22, pending state approval.
