A number of multistate operators are vying for the coveted six additional medical marijuana licenses in New Jersey’s rapidly growing MMJ industry, underscoring the increasing attraction of the Garden State market.
The New Jersey Department of Health has made the list of applicants available but said no further information would be released until the licenses are awarded Nov. 1. The state received 146 applications from 106 groups.
Council members in the borough of Clayton listened to a presentation Thursday evening from Green Thumb Industries.
The company applied to the New Jersey Department of Health for a medical marijuana program permit.
They are asking borough officials to approve a 50,000 square foot growing and manufacturing facility in the Cenco Boulevard Industrial Park.
Dozens of residents raised concerns at the meeting. Council members say the operation will have no retail sales.
Beyond the Michigan news and Illinois’ Senate voting for cannabis to be considered as an alternative to opioids, this was a relatively tranquil week for weed.
“It feels like the cannabis industry needed a quiet week to recover from 420,” said Debra Borchardt, CEO and co-founder of Green Market Report. “There was some slightly positive news out of Washington DC where AG Jeff Sessions seemed to indicate he was open to the idea of more research for medical marijuana but still made sure everyone knew he wasn't going soft on cannabis just yet.
