NY and NJ Both Legalized Marijuana This Year, But There’s One Big Difference
Adult use marijuana is now legal on both sides of the Hudson. But while New York’s law allows residents to grow up to six marijuana plants at home, in New Jersey, cultivating 10 plants in your basement could get you 20 years in prison.
There could be 2 medical weed dispensaries a block apart in N.J. after court denies lawsuit
The decision could put two competing dispensaries just a block apart in the city. The state only has 15 medical marijuana dispensaries currently. Some are more than an hour away from a competitor.
Terrapin, which has dispensaries in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Colorado, sued the Hoboken Planning Board and Harmony last fall. It claimed Harmony lacked valid approval because it bypassed a newer municipal law requiring applicants to come before the review board.
The Botanist to open third medical cannabis facility in Williamstown
The company held a pre-opening ribbon cutting on Friday, where Mayor Richard DiLuca cut the ribbon on the building and welcomed the company to town.
“As you said, your slogan is ‘Come Grow with Us in Monroe Township’ … and, we plan to grow with you,” said Brian Sickora, general manager of The Botanist in New Jersey. “Although we won’t be growing the actual plant at this location, we’re honored to serve the community, provide more access to medical cannabis in the state of New Jersey, and truly grow with you.”

New medical marijuana dispensary slated to open in N.J.
New Jersey’s 15th medical marijuana dispensary will open this week, marking more slow but steady progress in the state’s cannabis industry.
The Botanist, which is operated by Canadian cannabis giant Acreage, will open its doors to patients this week in Williamstown once it receives final state approval. It’s the company’s third dispensary in the state. The other two are in Atlantic City and Egg Harbor Township.
NJ Medical Marijuana Patients Deserve Better Access
New Jersey medical marijuana patients are plagued with long lines, supply shortages and amongst the highest cost in the nation for medical cannabis. The reason? The number of registered medical marijuana patients has grown by tens of thousands since Governor Murphy took office, but the state has issued only a handful of medical cannabis permits since then. In fact, today there are just 14 medical marijuana dispensaries to serve over 110,000 registered patients. The math simply doesn't work, and patients are needlessly suffering.
