The owners of Blue Violet Cannabis Dispensary pleaded for a compromise at Wednesday night’s council meeting following last month's court decision that ruled that its premise was too close to schools to open.
Hoboken for Responsible Cannabis (HRC) objected to the opening of the dispensary, arguing that its Washington Street location violates an ordinance stating that cannabis dispensaries must not be within 600 feet of schools.
Speaking at Wednesday night’s council meeting Max Thompson, one of Blue Violet Cannabis Dispensary's co-owners, said last week’s ruling had “felt like a bad dream we could not wake up from”.
He said they have been spreading the word about what happened both in person and online. “The message has been clear: something here is very broken,” Thompson said.
Blue Violet are willing to make “fair and reasonable proposals," according to Thompson, to appease those objecting to their store opening which he said would be publicly shared next week.
“I do not want to keep fighting, I just want to open our store. I refuse to believe there is no compromise to be had that we can all agree will be okay,” said Thompson.
