In a pioneering move that aims to reshape the perception and utilization of cannabis, a group of visionaries has embarked on a transformative journey to establish a cannabis lounge in the heart of East Orange. Led by Dana Rone, a former politician and community advocate, alongside local entrepreneurs Jose Rivera III and East Orange native, Dawn Middleton, this groundbreaking initiative seeks to create a safe, inclusive, and educational space for cannabis enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
The project traces its roots back to 2017-18 when Rone was inspired by a community poll that revealed East Orange residents' progressive mindset and awareness of the positive aspects of cannabis. Recognizing the potential for a thriving marijuana business, Rone delved into the world of construction management and collaborated with trusted builder Dan Jennings at New Life Construction to bring her vision to life.
After identifying a neglected property on “Main Street”, Rone, Rivera, and Middleton embarked on a two-year process to secure the necessary permits and transform the space. However, their aspirations extended beyond a mere dispensary. The team envisioned a multifaceted establishment that would serve as a community hub, fostering camaraderie and knowledge sharing among visitors.
Their innovative concept, known as The Flower Garden Dispensary, transcends the traditional dispensary model. It comprises four distinct levels, each catering to different needs and interests. The ground level houses the dispensary, ensuring top-quality products are readily available. Above that, the quiet level features a co-working space and an education center, providing a nurturing environment for independent professionals and continuous training and learning opportunities.
