Mount Laurel Council members on Tuesday, June 13, will either change its cannabis game plan or clarify the rules, depending on the point of view.
For daylite cannabis, the early entrant, the Township's interpretation of what is adequate security could put it out of business.
A Council resolution on Tuesday's agenda targets the business, which has renovated a former real estate office and as of last week had hired its staff and was expected to open before July 1.
The Township's support of each cannabis business is a requirement for the state license. The resolution cancels that support.
"To date, the developer has not demonstrated the ability to implement security functions meeting the state standards," according to the resolution. That resolution stated the Police Department had inspected daylite cannabis several times.
Yet owner Steve Cassidy has told 70and73.com that the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission had accepted his security plan and he awaits a state inspection before opening.
Township Solicitor George Morris said the use of security guards at the site was one of the recommendations made by the police department.
