Maplewood Hears Two Cannabis Applications
The Township Committee has received two retail applications for the sale of Cannabis for Adult Recreational Use. One is for a standard license and the other for a micro business license. Present for this portion of the meeting were Mayor Dean Dafis Deputy Mayor Vic DeLuca, Committeewoman Nancy Adams and Committeeman Frank McGehee.
The standard license application was submitted by TerrAscend NJ LLC, the current operator of the Medical Cannabis Dispensary on Springfield Avenue. TerrAscend showed their sales volume and the amount of taxes due to Maplewood. They expect their volume will increase by at least 5 times the current sales, if not 10 times or more. Deluca asked why the 2021 taxes remain unpaid. They stated that the Maplewood Financial Officer told them he wanted a full 12-month report together with payment.
A number of additional concerns were that must be addressed. These include parking concerns which affect the neighboring businesses, better outreach to the community, local diversity outreach and a formal D&I program.
