The feasibility of allowing cannabis “dispensary development” along the Route 9 corridor in Bass River Township’s Commercial Zone is being “researched,” with Mayor Deborah Buzby-Cope revealing during a Jan. 3 Bass River Township Board of Commissioners meeting that “it has been brought up about having a dispensary in town.”
Possibly allowing for cannabis dispensaries along the state highway that runs through the town’s commercial district, which is commonly referred to as New Gretna, was first brought up during a joint Bass River Township Planning and Zoning Board meeting this past December, the Pine Barrens Tribune has learned.
Bass River is one of only four municipalities in this newspaper’s coverage area to pass an ordinance to opt-in to the state’s new cannabis business licensing program, or to allow for cannabis businesses in town.
The township’s cannabis ordinance, approved on July 5 of last year, however, excluded only one of the state’s six permissible commercial cannabis licensing uses, “cannabis retailer.”
