Academy Heights residents voiced their concern about the potential creation of a cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility in their neighborhood at the village Board of Trustees’ meeting Jan. 24.
A portion of Academy Heights is designated as a B3 zone for industrial use. The B3 zone is located between Valley Street and the railroad tracks just south of the Third and Valley housing development.
The ordinances initially proposed by South Orange Village Trustee Bob Zuckerman included an option for a cannabis cultivation and manufacturing plant to open in the borough. If the ordinances get approved, construction on the plant could begin in the B3 zone.
