The township has established regulations for licensed marijuana facilities to operate here.
The ordinance, which the Township Council unanimously approved at its meeting on Tuesday, amends land use regulations to permit the operation of all classes of licensed cannabis businesses within certain designated areas and establishes a cannabis transfer tax and user tax.
"I think we've enacted the ordinance in a way that let's our planning board be sure that we maintain tight control over where it would be located and the conditions around it," Mayor Francis M. Womack said Thursday. "We said you can do it, but you can only do it in these very limited areas and only once the Planning Board approves this pretty hefty checklist."
The Township Council adopted an ordinance in August that permits six marijuana businesses.
Council President Carlo Socio said the new ordinance is the result of months of discussion among council members and a bit of compromise.
