The Borough Council voted unanimously Monday to support the first-ever medical marijuana dispensary in the municipality after a group seeking to open a facility made a presentation at a special council meeting.
But that is just the first step as the proposed site still needs approval from the state Department of Health.
Garden State Botanicals, a new corporation formed by pharmaceutical veteran Pat Nasshorn of Margate, received borough council approval on a 6-0 vote after a presentation to the governing body Monday. The company received approval for a dispensary to open at a former warehouse at 195 Throckmorton St. The meeting was held to meet an Aug. 21 deadline for Garden State Botanicals' application with the New Jersey Department of Public Health.
"We're very pleased with their approval and that they understood what we were trying to express with our presentation," Nasshorn said after the meeting.
