A medical marijuana company that hopes to set up a dispensary on North West Boulevard is asking for official city support to help it obtain a license from the New Jersey Department of Health.
Representatives of Columbia Care LLC discussed its plan for almost an hour at the City Council’s work session Tuesday night. The representatives, however, did not ask for a specific council action and council members limited their offers to advice and questions on potential economic impacts.
“We’ve applied in Vineland because it has a good work force and the patient population distribution in the state would benefit from the greatest access of being in this area,” said Jonathan Gilbert, East Coast Operations director for the company. “We’ve already submitted our application and the state wants to know though, if licensed, if we’d be welcomed by Vineland.
“We’re not counter-culture advocates,” Gilbert said. “This is about real medicine, plain and simple. Columbia Care’s focus and core belief is to serve the interests of patients, their families, and the communities they live in.”
