As the New Jersey Legislature prepares to delve into bills to expand medical marijuana and authorize adult recreational use, the New Jersey State League of Municipalities (NJLM) has one request.
“Whatever legislation is passed, make it permissive, not required,” said Michael Darcy, executive director of the NJLM, whose members include 564 of the state’s 565 municipalities.
It’s important, he added, that towns get to have a say in the matter.
“If it’s permissive, then they can make a decision that makes sense for each town,” Darcy said.
NJLM has a Cannabis Committee exploring the issues with four subcommittees delving into law enforcement, budget and finance, land use and quality of life issues.
