Located at 903 White Horse Road in Voorhees Township, Sweetspot Dispensary is the 29th medical dispensary in the Garden State and the first business from the state’s 2019 round of licensing to begin serving medical patients.
After the New Jersey Health Department posted a request for applications to select entities to operate alternative treatment centers, it received 109 submissions. Ultimately, it approved 30 dispensary permit endorsements, including Sweetspot Dispensary, in December 2019.
A South Jersey town is gearing up for adult recreational marijuana sales by approving its first medical marijuana dispensary, while Ascend Fort Lee kicked off medical cannabis sales on Friday with the intent to also expand to adult weed.
The application by Eastern Green Inc. was approved on Wednesday by the Voorhees Township Planning Board for medical marijuana sales to commence, Mario Dinatale, Acting Township Administrator and Director of Community Economic Development, confirmed.
In Voorhees, the Township Committee and Planning Board are moving along amendments to the Township's cannabis ordinance as well as an overlay map showing where the cannabis businesses may be conditionally permitted.
The overlay map (below) shows the marijuana retailing area in red, largely along each side of Route 73, on parts of Haddonfield-Berlin Road and on Somerdale Road. Wholesalers, distributors and retailers would be conditionally allowed in the blue areas.
To meet the rising demand for state-approved cannabis, the state Department of Health is reviewing 146 applications for six licenses by Nov. 1, including 51 applications vying for two licenses that will be granted in South Jersey. Four of the state's existing medical marijuana facilities, known as Alternative Treatment Centers, are also requesting state approval to add satellite locations.
