The last couple of months Rabble Rouser Media has been digging into a group called NJ-RAMP and it’s unregistered/registered/unregistered lobbyist, and soon to be former Mayor, Stephen Reid. Our focus thus far has primarily been on Mayor Reid, but in one of our last installments on this group we mentioned Grace Hanlon, who registered on behalf of SAM Action to “Provide information to SAM Action on the news and legal processes in New Jersey.
Opponents of marijuana are primarily concerned with stoned driving and people under 21 obtaining easier access to pot. But another concern among officials is a fear that marijuana dispensaries will attract unwanted visitors to their town.
“Woodcliff Lake is a quaint little town, and it's not a place for dispensaries to open up,” said Mayor Carlos Rendo. He fears dispensaries will put a strain on social services and increase rates of homelessness, though he acknowledged that homelessness is not an issue in Woodcliff Lake currently.
Recently, NJ-Ramp has begun a campaign to combat recreational cannabis legalization in New Jersey. Their campaign mimics Reefer Madness style propaganda during which fear mongering and falsehood promulgation were commonplace. NJ-Ramp is doing a disservice to New Jersey citizens by obscuring reality.
