SYNOPSIS
Codifies certain cannabis packaging requirements; establishes offense for minor gaining access to improperly stored cannabis products.
Federal laws on marijuana have led to issues in states where the substance is legal, including New Jersey, affecting everything from banking to advertising. That was a flashpoint during Tuesday night’s meeting of the Cannabis Regulatory Commission, the body tasked with setting rules for the new marketplace by Aug. 21. Rules on packaging, labeling and advertising were a major focus.
Big warning labels. Uniform symbols denoting that a product is not for kids. TV advertisements where no one would even think a marijuana user is underage.
These were some of the suggestions posed Tuesday by doctors and marijuana regulators, who pushed the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission to ensure safe and effective labeling of legal weed is a priority as it prepares to draft the rules and regulations that will oversee the nascent legal weed industry.
