The founders of HoneyGrove, a medical dispensary in Gloucester Township, entered the cannabis industry for a variety of reasons. David Del Vecchio — a physical therapist and one of HoneyGrove's owners — felt a dispensary could help meet community members' health needs.
"I saw a lot of people go down the route of opioids and painkillers," Del Vecchio told Patch. " ... I got into the cannabis world because of that originally."
HoneyGrove, which opened Aug. 9, will celebrate its grand opening this Friday. (See event info below.)

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, an early supporter of legalized cannabis, cut the ribbon at 220 Broadway, which used to be Wilson’s Carpet, this afternoon.
“We were one of the state leaders advocating for legalization. We were the first to push for decriminalization. I’m excited we’re finally seeing the state move forward with licenses so the local governments can open,” Fulop declared.
“Ript has been committed to the neighborhood for some time. I think they’re going to do really well here.”
The first dispensary for sales of recreational marijuana opened in Ocean County Friday. Before the Social Leaf Dispensary opened in South Toms River, customers would have to travel long distances to access recreational products.
Last week also saw the opening for medical marijuana sales of the Bloc Dispensary in Waretown, Ocean County.
Ocean County's first legalized cannabis business has opened as of July 5, and the team at Waretown's Bloc Dispensary encourages residents to throw out their old-fashioned ideas about marijuana and give them a chance.
Bloc Dispensary, located at 501 U.S. 9 South, is a purely medical cannabis facility, as required by Waretown's laws. You need to have a medical marijuana card to even enter the store.
Patch was there on its opening day as a steady amount of customers entered the store, hoping to get their hands on the products they needed.
When it comes to legal weed sales in Toms River, the township council appears to be at an impasse.
While some council members have previously indicated they might support medical marijuana sales in town, the state is no longer issuing licenses to sell medicinal weed.
"We were talking and talking and talking about medicinal marijuana," Council President Matt Lotano said. "Now the state is not issuing medical marijuana licenses anymore. It kinda killed the conversation."
The first women-owned medical marijuana dispensary opened its doors to customers in Atlantic City on Friday.
The dispensary, Design 710, held a grand opening celebration along the unit block of Park Place.
The city's Zoning Board of Adjustment rejected an application for a medical marijuana dispensary on Memorial Drive and First Avenue.
Cranbury-based Breakwater Treatment and Wellness proposed opening the medical marijuana dispensary, which would have been the company's third location in New Jersey.
Breakwater's flagship dispensary in Cranbury has been open since 2015 and a satellite dispensary in Roselle Park opened in September, but Breakwater has long planned to open a dispensary in Asbury Park.
