As New Jersey’s residents get ready to vote on marijuana legalization later this year, a Secaucus-based company has finally been given the green light to open a dispensary in a building near the city’s PATH station.
Jersey Digs first broke the news about plans to bring a medical marijuana facility to the Mile Square City last summer. Months of discussions ensued about the local regulation of cannabis before the city eventually approved an ordinance in June clarifying its rules on medicinal pot.
Contactless, curb-side pickup
The dispensary has shifted from indoor transactions to serving patients without direct contact.
“Since the pandemic, we’ve instituted a contactless curbside pickup system to protect the patients and the staff,” Marko said. “Patients now submit their orders online, and we prepare them the day before their scheduled appointment.”
An employee is stationed outside with a mask, gloves, and a basket used to carry a patients’ payment method and medical marijuana card before receiving their orders.
Four of the nine operational medical cannabis companies in New Jersey could soon begin delivering marijuana to patients, finally heeding the calls of patients to ease access to their medicine.
The four companies confirmed to NJ Cannabis Insider that they are seriously developing plans or awaiting approval of their delivery plans from the state Department of Health, which late last month enacted a waiver that allows for the delivery of medical cannabis.
Scott Rudder, president of New Jersey Cannabusiness Association, says a new waiver signed by the state Department of Health allowing the 11 permitted dispensaries to start home delivery is a game changer.
“Through the coronavirus, when we had a lot of restrictions, there were long lines and everything else so the state of New Jersey put forward their rules and regulations to allow for the current ATCs [alternative treatment centers] to provide a plan for home delivery,” Rudder said.

Existing Market
Publicly traded multi-state operators (MSOs) play a big role aleready in the New Jersey medical cannabis market. Last month, the state added 2 permits, bringing the total number of Alternative Treatment Centers to 11 with the additions of Zen Leaf (Verano New Jersey) in Elizabeth and Columbia Care (NEO: CCHW) (CSE: CCHW) (OTC: CCHWF) in Vineland.
The other nine centers include:
A medical marijuana growing and processing facility yet to be built on Route 94 has grown by approximately 30,000 square feet.
The Township Land Use Board, at its virtual meeting Thursday, unanimously approved the expansion for room to install HVAC equipment inside the building and to provide adequate space for mechanical equipment in utility rooms. The changes increase the size of the building across two stories from 381,548 square feet to 411,176 square feet.
A New Jersey dispensary has a special gift for veterans in the lead up to Memorial Day. Harmony, a medical marijuana dispensary in Secaucus, is honoring a local veteran and cannabis activist, Leo Bridgewater, with a new strain developed with military vets in mind, named Bridge H2O. Bridgewater has been a vocal advocate for cannabis legalization and was instrumental in helping New Jersey recognize the substantial benefits of medical cannabis.
Harmony Dispensary in Secaucus has given cannabis activist Leo Bridgewater the ultimate industry nod: They named their newest strain after him.
Patients will be allowed to use curbside pickup for medical marijuana at alternative treatment centers, the state Department of Health announced, ridding them of the need to go inside a dispensary during the coronavirus outbreak.
But the dispensaries do not have to offer the service, and getting it up and running will take time. Meanwhile, all 12 operational and pending licensed medical marijuana businesses signed a joint statement, saying they were working out technology to schedule appointments and implement curbside dispensing.
