Message from the Office of the Village President

South Orange Neighbors,
The question on the ballot will read: "Shall the City of Vineland permit the siting of medical marijuana cultivation and dispensary alternative treatment centers within the geographic boundaries of Vineland?"
The measure was approved unanimously and without debate at the City Council meeting on Tuesday night.
In the three weeks since the state put out a request for applications for the six new medical marijuana dispensaries it will be licensing, the Department of Health said it received approximately 530 questions about the application process.
The department attempted to answer those queries at a mandatory meeting for all Alternative Treatment Center applicants Thursday morning in Trenton.
Applicant eligibility, municipal approval and financial requirements were among the hot topics at the session.
I attended Cannagather with much trepidation. Held at Jersey City’s Zeppelin Hall—site of numerous fundraisers for Steve Fulop, in the midst of one of JC’s fanciest neighborhoods (the Pyongyang of Jersey City, if you will)—I expected the event to be packed full of venture capital-types half my age whom I would reflexively hate. The VC guys were there, but the crowd was much different than I expected.
This week is shaping up to be a big one for medical marijuana.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health awarded 13 permits Tuesday to cannabis cultivators, bringing the number of companies licensed to grow and process medical marijuana in the state to 25.
And on Wednesday, vaporizable “flower” — the most popular and affordable form of marijuana — goes on sale at a dozen dispensaries across the state.
There’s new kind of Girl Scout cookies for sale in town -- though you’re going to need a prescription to get them. “Girl Scout Cookies” is actually the name of a strain of marijuana sold at the Harmony Dispensary, a medical marijuana facility at 600 Meadowlands Pkwy in Secaucus.
Harmony officially opened for business on June 18. It’s the first such operation in Hudson County, and the sixth Alternative Treatment Center in New Jersey.
Stock up on toll money, turnpike drivers. In continuation of Governor Phil Murphy's pledge to embrace legal weed, New Jersey will welcome six new medical marijuana dispensaries this year, with two pot shops each spread across the southern, central, and northern regions of the densely-packed East Coast hub.
At a press conference on Monday, Governor Murphy announced the newly-added dispensary licenses personally, calling on potential applicants to present their business plans to state regulators by the end of next month.
Potential medical marijuana operators have listed the borough as a "prime location" and will soon be meeting with the council with hopes of opening a dispensary.
Three potential medical marijuana applicants have already met with Mayor Mark Sokolich and he has invited them to start making presentations to the Borough Council.
The Department of Health has issued a Request for Applications (RFA) for up to six additional Alternative Treatment Centers (ATCs) in the state. Given the unprecedented expansion of the program, the Department anticipates the issuance of additional RFAs in the future.
