Borough voters may be asked in November if they want businesses that sell marijuana for adult recreational use to operate here.
A vote to place the referendum on the ballot is scheduled for the April 10 Borough Council meeting.
"I believe our borough has to be innovative and think outside the box," Councilman Jason Oliveira, who sponsored the ordinance, said. "A dispensary will bring much needed revenue to our borough."
When speaking to Council members, Oliveira said he suggested letting residents decide.
“The reason for the referendum is because the voting box is a safe space for our residents,” he said. “People can vote with their conscience. They don’t have to do it in public. It's just such a hot topic. It’s about giving our residents a voice to be heard.”
