Livingston Township Manager Barry Lewis, Jr. recently provided an update on the Livingston Cannabis Committee’s findings after the planning board’s subcommittee was charged with analyzing the state’s regulations and preparing recommendations for the township council to consider as the governing body resumes its conversation about permitting local cannabis licenses for the various classes.
Following the state’s legalization of recreational marijuana, the council voted in favor of allowing all classes of cannabis in Livingston with the exception of retail. In addition to retailers, the legal classes of cannabis licenses also include cultivators, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors (to retail) and delivery services.
At the time, the serving council members asserted that they would revisit the retail discussion once additional research could be done.
“The committee felt like—if requested to do so by the council—that the time is now appropriate to focus on the retail because the horror stories or fears that were being thrown around are not happening, and it can be done and managed in an appropriate way,” said Lewis.
