Amendment to the Borough’s Cannabis Regulations
Councilman Michael Ballard said, “This (ordinance), has been discussed in our co-committee over the past several weeks with our (interim) Business Administrator (Darren McConnell), (borough) engineer Ed Herman and Shawna Ebanks (Director of Community Development).
The 1,000-foot distance (from schools/parks), or lack thereof in our ordinance, and its ambiguity was part of the discussion, but we also talked about the whole structure of the ordinance; licensing, parking issues...”
Ballard asked, “If my fellow council members have any ideas or suggestions about how we can improve this ordinance…, and bring it back to the committee and hopefully come back with an amendment.
Ultimately, we would have to go back to the Planning Board if we do decide to amend it.”
Mayor Billy Portman asked if anybody on the council wanted to offer any ideas and received no response.
Mayor Portman said, “That 1,000-foor restriction was put in place to have a drug free school zone or parks, but now we legalized cannabis so, to me, it doesn’t fall under that limitation anymore.
