At last week’s town council meeting, members voted on Kemistry LLC Cannabis’ proposal to open its business at 455 Pleasant Valley.
Council Member Michelle Casalino expressed her concern that customers have to park in the public parking lot. She also inquired as to what the cap will be on the number of West Orange cannabis businesses. Casalino stated, “We have four letters of approval--two for retail and two for cultivation. That’s six letters of support, and this would make seven.”
Council Member Cindy Matute-Brown responded, “We have a four license cap for standard, but for micro businesses, the mayor did not want a cap.” She added that the council doesn’t have to worry about it now because it has instated a moratorium until New Jersey responds to the applications that West Orange has recommended to the state.
Town Council President Susan McCartney reminded attendees that once those are approved, they go through a process with the Planning Board to ensure the township approves all the plans and residents can also voice their opinions.
