After securing approval from the Hoboken Planning Board, Blue Violets LLC is one step closer towards opening what would be the city’s first-ever cannabis dispensary.
During its meeting Thursday night, the board unanimously supported the application, which proposes a microbusiness at 628 Washington Street in an empty storefront that used to be a Brazilian wax parlor.
Blue Violets is among the four applicants granted conditional approval by the city’s Cannabis Review Board this past spring. Now, it must receive a resolution of support from the City Council before pursuing a license from the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC).
The 850-square-foot business would be owned and operated by Maxwell Thompson and Lauren Jordan Chang Thompson, a married couple from Weehawken. Blue Violets would also have frosted glass windows, unarmed security guards and multiple points for ID checks to ensure no one under the age of 21 can get in, according to the applicants.
