Hoboken’s Cannabis Review Board signed off on the city’s first-ever proposed retail cannabis business, which hopes to open in the 14th Street space previously occupied by Hudson Tavern restaurant.
During a virtual meeting Thursday night, the 3-person board OK-ed an application filed by Story Dispensary of Hoboken, LLC, which allows the proposal to proceed to the next step in the process — Planning Board approval.
Story is seeking permission to set up a 6,000-square-foot shop on the first floor and in the basement of 51-53 14th Street. According to the application, the store would be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and staffed by 10 to 20 employees.
“As a company majority-owned by a longtime Hoboken resident, we have carefully selected Hoboken as our home because of the city’s character as a dynamic, culturally diverse and hard-working urban center with a bright future,” the application said.
Story also went on to say that its mission “extends well beyond cannabis sales” and believes its responsibility is “to help build and contribute to our local community in every aspect possible.”
