The Bordentown City Commissioners on Monday unanimously approved an ordinance to allow recreational marijuana sales in the City.
The number of cannabis cultivators, manufacturers and retailers permitted within the City will be set at a maximum of two each. One cannabis delivery service will be allowed under the ordinance. The ordinance prohibits wholesalers and distributors in the City.
In November, New Jersey voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot question to legalize recreational marijuana by 67 percent. Mayor Jennifer Sciortino on Monday noted that in Bordentown City the number was even higher, with 8 out of every 10 City voters supporting the initiative.
“We won’t see this proliferation of businesses in the City and overrun it. It will be a targeted amount and has the potential to provide long term financial benefits to the City,” said Sciortino.
