The municipal zoning code book is staying closed, for a while at least, to all six types of marijuana-based businesses recently legalized in New Jersey.
The Borough Council on Tuesday night adopted an ordinance that prohibits all cannabis-related businesses, ranging from growing operations to delivery services.
The council was required to make an official “opt in” or “opt out” decision not later than August 21 under a new state law. The brief period the state allowed for local officials to decide has led a number of governing bodies to adopt restrictive zoning, allowing them to observe how the cannabis industry unfolds in New Jersey.
A dissent from Councilman Joseph D’Alessandro made it a 5-to-1 decision. He also was the only member to comment.
