Mayor Chris Weber has come out in opposition to the establishment of any cannabis-related commerce on the township's two main thoroughfares, Morris and Mountain avenues.
Speaking at last week's Township Committee meeting, Weber said that he would be amenable to the establishment of marijuana businesses on Route 22, but not on the township proper's two largest streets in the downtown area.
"I do acknowledge that it is not different than an alcohol establishment, and I also agree with our callers' comments about the foot traffic on a newly built Morris Avenue, but for me as a resident here first, I am not OK with it on Mountain Avenue and I am not OK with it on the Morris Avenue corridor," Weber said at a Township Committee meeting last Tuesday. "I am OK with 22 wherever it could fit."
