Because Piscataway is a "family town," marijuana shops will not be allowed within the township's borders under an ordinance introduced Tuesday by the Township Council.
"This is a family town," Mayor Brian Wahler said. "It’s one thing for a neighbor to use a legal product in the privacy of his or her own home; it’s another thing to have a marijuana store down the block from your house.
“Unfortunately, the state doesn’t have clear rules on cannabis," the mayor continued. "If the township doesn’t opt out now, we would be held to whatever the state comes up with and that may not be good for Piscataway."
A public hearing and final vote on the ordinance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. June 10.
