Borough officials have booked the high school’s auditorium for a special summit on potential municipal regulations for the state’s legal marijuana industry.
Scheduled for 7 p.m. on April 29, the meeting will allow the public to address elected officials as they consider local bans on businesses that engage in marijuana distribution, delivery, cultivation, manufacturing, wholesaling or retail sales.
Mayor Michael Serra said he would support a full ban on marijuana businesses in town. However, council members Ekamon Venin, Terri Reicher and Erik DeLine said a more nuanced approach may be appropriate for the community and have requested public input.
“As a parent, I’m against any sort of marijuana in the borough,” Venin said in March. “But as an elected official, this referendum passed almost 2 to 1 in Pompton (Lakes). So, for us to unilaterally say 'no' across the board would be inappropriate.”
