Bridgewater Township Mayor Matthew Moench, with the support of the township council, is looking to take several steps in the community following the legalization of marijuana in New Jersey.
Moench is calling for an ordinance prohibiting recreational marijuana dispensaries and is looking to re-establish the D.A.R.E. program.
“Earlier this week, Gov. (Phil) Murphy and members of the legislature enacted anti-child, anti-family and anti-police legislation, which goes well beyond the reasonable expectations of those who supported legalization for adult usage,” he said in a statement. “Instead of protecting our children, while allowing adults to make decisions for themselves, this legislation effectively insulates minors from facing any consequences from underage use and removes any meaningful deterrents.”
The legislation will allow for adults to legally possess as much as six ounces of marijuana and means relief for anyone previously subject to arrest for petty marijuana possession.
