As one of the largest medical marijuana operators in the nation, Columbia Care knows what it takes to launch its newest operation in New Jersey, the 14th state in which it will have a license.
“It really does require a unique perspective every time you open up in a new state,” CEO and co-founder Nicholas Vita told NJ Cannabis Media. “There are certain lessons you can learn and apply from state to state. There are certain approaches you can use to enhance efficiency and leverage relationships, but the laws and regulations of New Jersey are unique to New Jersey. Whereas we do try to apply what we believe is appropriate and reasonable, there is an element of newness to everything we do. Because we want to make sure it is specifically suited for the New Jersey market and the New Jersey patient population.”
Columbia Care is one of the six new winners of licenses to operate an Alternative Treatment Center. Columbia Care finished third in scoring in both the Central and South regions and was awarded the second South license because second-place finisher NETA NJ received a license for placing first in the North.
