Message from the Office of the Village President
August 17, 2018
South Orange Neighbors,
This letter is to inform you that the Board of Trustees will have a special meeting on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 8:00pm at the Baird Community Center, 5 Mead Street, to consider Resolution 2018-242: “Resolution Supporting the Expansion of the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act,” which would permit an Alternative Treatment Center (“ATC”), as defined and regulated under the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act (N.J.S.A 24:6I-1 et seq.), to locate in South Orange if granted a license by the State of New Jersey Department of Health.
It is very seldom that I would convene a special meeting of the governing body for the sole purpose of considering a single resolution and one that would likely generate community interest or questions. It is with this in mind and my personal commitment to transparency, that I’d like to take you through what this resolution entails, why it is time sensitive, and what it would mean for our community.
