Legislation is pending in Trenton that could make the drug legal for recreational use. It is legal for medical applications with a physician's prescription.

Grace Hanlon, represented New Jersey Responsible Approaches to Marijuana Policies, and showed slides and video clips of the impact legalized marijuana has had in Colorado.
She noted the accessibility of candy laced with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the plant's main psychoactive component), and the upswing that has caused in emergency room visits.
Some of those products include jelly-bears, a favorite of children, which can be produced with THC added. Another was toaster pastries that bear likeness of regular products, but with a marijuana leaf on the lower front.
Also cited was a woman who called a Colorado marijuana dispensary and claimed she was pregnant, and suffered from morning sickness. She asked if marijuana could alleviate the symptoms. She was told that smoking marijuana would alleviate her condition.
