The smell of weed was in the air on Thursday afternoon as Queen City Remedies joined the City of Plainfield to commemorate Plainfield's newest business, its first marijuana dispensary, located at 1353 South Avenue.
Queen City Remedies is only the 7th purely recreational dispensary to open in the state of New Jersey, where around 70% of municipalities have opted out of letting these businesses into town. This includes many of Plainfield's neighbors.
"We all know about the war on drugs and what it has meant to the City of Plainfield, where we have a disproportionate number of people who have suffered under the weight of the war of drugs," said Mayor Adrian Mapp. "We have to do something about that. So as I sit down with people who are interested in doing business in our city, I make sure to express the importance of giving our people the ability to work in their establishments, so that they can be gainfully employed. No one deserves more of a chance than those individuals who have been affected by the war on drugs."
