Cannabis businesses will be permitted only along the highway corridor in Bayonne, according to new regulations passed by the City Council last month.
The new rules would not allow the sale of cannabis in the central business districts such as along Broadway but would permit them to operate along Route 440 and points further east, away from traditional residential areas.
These new rules also prohibit cannabis businesses from being located closer than 1,000 feet from a school, playground, child care facility, or a church.
A second ordinance established a Cannabis Preliminary Review Board made up of the mayor, a member of the city council, and Bayonne’s public safety director. This body would be tasked with reviewing applications for doing business and then make the recommendation to the state which would approve or not approve licenses.
