Robert Montuore came to a special township committee meeting on Tuesday to see if a recreational cannabis cultivation facility would be welcome in the township.
After a presentation of his business, Essential Cannabis, the public had a chance to ask Montuore questions in the Zoom meeting and offer comments.
For more than an hour, they hammered him with questions and one comment summed up what residents thought.
"I wish you luck in finding a place far away from where I live," one resident said.
Montuore said he has not yet found a place to locate the 50,000-square-foot facility, about 6% the size of an average Amazon warehouse and 90% the size of a football field.
"We're still exploring," he said, explaining the company would build its own facility if it couldn't find an existing structure.
"We don't want to be an eyesore," he said.
Montuore, retired from a career in law enforcement and a self-professed "serial entrepreneur," admitted that cannabis still has a "big stigma" but that "it's the wave of the future."
