Jeff Brown, assistant commissioner of the Department of Health’s Medicinal Marijuana Program (DOH’s MMP), said there was an August phone call with the 2018 licensees in which the department emphasized the imminent need for them to open and meet patient demand.
Since Gov. Phil Murphy’s inauguration, the enrollment in the DOH’s MMP has more than doubled. Compared to New Jersey’s population of nearly 9 million and New York’s of more than 19 million, we’re keeping track with the Empire State’s enrollment trend, with more than 53,000 in the Garden State and more than 106,000 patients in New York.
“We just wanted to outline some clear expectations for the rest of the year,” Brown told NJ Cannabis Insider. “We said initially, when licenses were issued, the timeline is dependent on their business capacities, but we also stated the patient need is only growing by the day.”
Brown declined to discuss the status of specific applicants, but said the DOH was “pushing hard for folks to move as quickly as they can.”
