The legalization of marijuana in New York State is gaining momentum, and there are concerns on all sides.
Proponents and opponents gathered at a community in Jamaica, Queens, Saturday to talk about the implications of legalizing cannabis for recreational use. Among the concerns was where the money from legal weed will go -- to local communities, to businessmen, to the transit system?
State Sen. James Sanders called the community meeting. He’s opposed to legalization but wanted wanted to know more about the abuse – and cash – it might bring, so he called people together.
“We should know what we’re getting into,” Sanders said. “All this money that we’re supposed to be making from it – is this real or is this part of a fantasy?”
Bruce Jacobs, from Coalition of the Rockaways, worries about the kids: "These stores will either sell it to them or somebody else is going to be selling them."
