Efforts to legalize recreational marijuana use in New Jersey have stalled, but not efforts to keep a legal marijuana farm out of a suburban bedroom community in Morris County.
Residents of two towns implored members of the Planning Board on Monday to join their resistance to a medical cannabis cultivation farm proposed to operate on the former Hamilton Farms property, which borders their neighborhoods.
"I bought my property two years ago, and would never have brought this property had I known [about the sale]," said Jason Schneidkraut, who lives on Pond Hill Road, adjacent to the farm. "I would have never thought that a controlled substance would be passed by a township without actually notifying the members of the town. "
The family that operated the farm since 1928, mostly selling produce, announced this year that it had sold the property to NETA, a subsidiary of Canadian TerrAscend Corp., for $2.2 million.
