Potential medical marijuana operators have listed the borough as a "prime location" and will soon be meeting with the council with hopes of opening a dispensary.
Three potential medical marijuana applicants have already met with Mayor Mark Sokolich and he has invited them to start making presentations to the Borough Council.
Sokolich said he believes Fort Lee is being targeted for a medical marijuana dispensary because it's the gateway community to New Jersey, has access to over 25 major thoroughfares, has over 100,000 cars traveling through the community every day and is close to many hospitals.
"There are a lot of reasons why this makes sense and could be a recipe for success," Sokolich said. "If people are deathly ill, shame on us for not giving them the ability to relieve themselves," Sokolich said.
